What IELTS band score do I need for UK visa?

For a UK Student visa (Tier 4), most universities require an overall IELTS band score of 6.0–7.0 depending on the course. Some competitive courses such as Law or Medicine require 7.0+ with no component below 6.5.

How is IELTS scored?

IELTS is scored on a band scale from 1 (non-user) to 9 (expert). Your overall band score is the average of your four component scores, Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, rounded to the nearest 0.5.

How long is IELTS valid?

IELTS results are valid for 2 years from the date of the test. Most institutions and visa applications require results from within the past 2 years.

What is the difference between Academic and General Training IELTS?

Academic IELTS is required for undergraduate and postgraduate university admissions and certain professional registrations. General Training IELTS is used for secondary education, work experience, or migration to English-speaking countries. The Listening and Speaking tests are the same for both; the Reading and Writing tests differ.

How many times can I take IELTS?
