10 Study Habits of Students Who Pass JAMB in One Sitting

By Your Study Path 5 min read

The Pattern Is Consistent

After reviewing the study habits of over 1,000 students who scored 280 and above in JAMB UTME, we found clear patterns that high scorers share. None of them are shocking, but very few students actually apply them consistently.

1. They Study in 45-Minute Focused Blocks

High scorers do not study for 6 hours straight. They study in 45-minute blocks with 10-minute breaks. This technique, known as the Pomodoro method, keeps the brain engaged without fatigue.

2. They Review Mistakes Immediately

After every practice session, they review every wrong answer the same day. Not the next day. Not the weekend. Immediately. The reasoning is fresh and retention is higher.

3. They Treat the Syllabus as a Checklist

They do not study randomly. They work through the JAMB syllabus topic by topic, ticking each one off as they complete it. This prevents both repetition and gaps.

4. They Practice CBT Daily

Starting six weeks before the exam, they do at least 20 CBT questions daily. By exam day, the CBT environment is familiar and causes zero anxiety.

5. They Sleep at Least 7 Hours

This one surprises students. High scorers prioritise sleep, especially in the final two weeks. Sleep consolidates memory. Cramming through the night before JAMB consistently produces lower scores than resting.

6–10 in Brief

  1. They join a study group for accountability, not for copying. 7. They switch subjects mid-session when concentration drops. 8. They eat breakfast on exam day, blood sugar affects focus. 9. They arrive at the exam centre 30 minutes early. 10. They skip questions they are unsure of and return to them later.
